National Background Investigations

At National Background Investigations, Inc. (NBI) we recognize that good security is just plain good business. We understand today’s customers are concerned about their privacy and know that it is our responsibility to protect consumers’ rights of privacy.

National Background Investigations, Inc. is a consumer reporting agency regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act and other federal and state laws. We are committed to your privacy and have adopted the following privacy principles pertaining to how we collect, utilize and share information.  

CONFIDENTIALITY: National Background Investigations, Inc. is a Consumer Reporting Agency that collects personal data solely for the purposes of providing its clients with essential information required to make employment screening decisions. Its employees and its contractors agree to maintain in the strictest of confidence and not willfully disclose to any person, firm or corporation information obtained as a result of their access to personal information received by client or applicant by disclosure form or any other method.  This includes all consumer report data as defined by FCRA and FACTA 2003.

DATA INTEGRITY: National Background Investigations, Inc. will use personal information only in ways that are compatible with the purposes for which it was collected or subsequently authorized by the individual. National Background Investigations, Inc. will take reasonable steps to ensure that personal information is relevant to its intended use, accurate, complete, and current.

SECURITY: The safeguard of data security is an ongoing process – an exercise in due diligence to protect information and information systems from unauthorized access, use and disclosure. Our IT team is committed to the safeguard of electronic and hard copy media. NBI takes reasonable precautions to protect personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration and destruction.

ENFORCEMENT: NBI will conduct compliance audits of its relevant privacy practices to verify adherence to this Policy. Any employee that is determined to be in violation of this policy will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

DISCLOSURE: If you are an individual on whom an NBI client has requested a background screening investigation,  and have submitted personal information at the request of such client for purposes of procuring a background report, then you can review your file in accordance with your file disclosure rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, California Civil Code § 1786.20 and any other applicable state laws by contacting lori@nationalbackground.com. You can review a summary of your consumer rights (including file disclosure rights) under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

INTERNATIONAL TRANSFER OF DATA: Personal information submitted may at times be transferred outside of the United States in order to perform an international background screening when requested. NBI has established a data privacy policy which complies with the Safe Harbor principles administered by the US Department of Commerce, in accordance with the European Commission’s Directive regarding the collection, use, and retention of personal information from EU member countries. This site is hosted from the United States. Users located outside of the United States consent to the transfer of their data to the United States for processing and use in accordance with this privacy policy.

DISPUTE RESOLUTION: Any questions or concerns regarding the use or disclosure of personal information must be directed to the Privacy Officer at the address listed below. NBI will investigate and attempt to resolve complaints and disputes regarding use and disclosure of personal information in accordance with the principles contained in this policy. NBI will cooperate with the European Data Protection Authorities in the investigation and in the resolution of all complaints.

PRIVACY POLICY AMENDMENTS: This Policy may be revised from time to time. We encourage you to periodically review this Privacy Policy to be informed of any changes.
